June Beauty Buys & Reviews
Here’s a quick recap of the beauty and skincare products I purchased and sampled in June. (UPDATED with Nuxe and Beautannia products)
Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm – £9.50 for 15 ml – I bought this at Space NK and it’s my new favorite lip balm. It has a smooth, light texture that hydrates very well, making a noticeable difference without leaving a shiny or sticky sheen on my lips and lasts for most of the day. I only have to apply it in the morning and in the evening, and not constantly throughout the day. An ultra concentrated natural formula for instant healing, this lip balm soothes, repairs, nourishes, softens and heals chapped lips whilst reducing fine lines of the lip contour area. I highly recommend it!
When I purchased the Nuxe lip balm at Space NK, I received two samples each of Beautannia’s Brideshead bath & shower gel and body lotion.
Beautannia Brideshead Bath & Shower Gel – £30.00 for 350 ml – This bath and shower gel has a beautiful, delicate floral scent and lathers up very well. It’s a nice treat! Made with coconut and sugar derived cleansers and moisturizing oat protein that leave skin soft and supple, and the light, feminine scent consists of wintersweet, honeysuckle and wild bluebell, laced softly with plum, peach and violet leaves.
Beautannia Brideshead Body Lotion – £35.00 for 350 ml – Again, a lovely treat with a beautiful floral scent, made with argan extract to gently moisturise and sweet almond oil to soften your skin, while vitamins B, C and E help protect and polypeptides encourage firmness.
Earlier this year I attended the Natural & Organics Products Show at Olympia and came across the organic skincare and cosmetics range, Natura Siberica. Founded in 2007 in Moscow, Natura Siberica offers a comprehensive health and beauty collection made with wild-harvested Siberian herbs. Some of the 4,000 plants that are indigenous to Siberia’s volatile climate – many of which were used to create beauty elixirs for the Russian royal family throughout history – survived the Ice Age by adapting to and thriving in the most severe conditions, and botanists have discovered that as a result, these plants possess rare qualities that help to enhance our general well being and slow the skin’s own aging process. Natura Siberica use 22 different herbs in their face and body products, which are formulated with exclusive bases, including Siberian pine oil and sea-buckthorn, to enhance the active ingredients in each product.
Natura Siberica Light Day Cream – I really liked this cream and it worked well with my oily combination skin. It has a light silky texture which quickly absorbs, leaving my skin feeling fresh and moisturised, and not at all greasy. It also has a lovely, delicate scent of lavender. This cream is made with 99% natural ingredients, including organic jojoba butter, which makes your skin soft and supple, while providing lipids that preserve the skin’s natural protective layer, and organic apricot oil, which soothes, moisturizes and smoothes skin, replenishing it with vitamins and improves complexion, while rice powder mattifies skin and restores skin lipid balance.
I loved this product, but I can’t find it online, so I’m going to check if Kensington Therapy Centre, listed as one of Natura Siberica’s UK partners, has it in stock, otherwise, I am interested in trying out the other day and night creams in the range that are available on Natura Siberica’s UK website.
Natura Siberica Extra-Firming Facial Mask – £5.10 for 75 ml – This product is geared towards mature skin and the sample allowed for a couple of applications, so I cannot speak for the lifting effect or adaptogenic properties that smooth out lines to make skin firmer, brighter and younger-looking. I wore it overnight both times and enjoyed the extra moisture and my skin did look more radiant in the morning when I washed the mask off. This isn’t the right product for me, but as I said above, I’m planning on checking out the rest of the range and trying out a mask that is more appropriate for my skin type. This mask is made with Snow Cladonia, which regenerates skin cells and slows down the ageing process, while Siberian Golden Root is highly renowned for its fantastic adaptogenic properties that protect and strengthen skin, smooth out lines and make skin firmer, brighter and younger-looking.

REN Mayblossom T-Zone Cleansing Gel – £17.00 for 150 ml – I used the 20% discount I received in the Amarya June Beauty Box (for products featured that month) to purchase this cleanser and was pleased with the product. It’s a gentle yet effective natural and organic cleanser for oily combination skin types that works to remove dirt, dissolve excess sebum and unclog pores, without irritating the skin. Flavonoids from the mayblossom ingredient decongest the skin, while the salicilin from willow bark provides mild exfoliation and anti-microbiol properties to purify problem skin, reduce pore size and minimise spot formation and the guaiazulene from blue cypress essential oil calms redness and soothes minor irritations.
Dr. Organic Virgin Coconut Oil Body Wash - £5.49 for 250 ml – With my growing bump, I’m always on the lookout for body washes that work double duty by also moisturising my skin, so I picked this up when I saw it at Holland & Barrett. It is a nourishing and refreshing body wash, but I wish it had a stronger scent.
Dr. Organic Virgin Coconut Oil Hand & Nail Cream – £5.99 for 100 ml – This hand cream lasts quite a while as I’m still using it into July on a daily basis. It is fast absorbing as it claims and keeps my hands well moisturised. I’ve never been disappointed by Dr. Organic’s hand creams; they have always been my favorite products in the range.
I purchased this gift set at Harrods, mostly because I needed a new mascara and at £20.00, this was a pretty good deal as it includes an eye pencil and a mini All About Eyes serum that I was interested in trying.
Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage – £22.00 for 15 ml – I like this product and works well to refresh and hydrate puffy eyes with dark circles using caffeine, antioxidants and soothing botanicals. It doesn’t irritate my eyes and leaves them looking a lot more refreshed.
Clinique High Lengths Mascara – £16.50 for 7 ml – This is working OK for me for now, especially for simple day looks, but I plan on switching to another product after I finish it. I like that’s quick and easy to apply, but it can at times get a bit clumpy and I don’t think the applicator does a good job in separating the lashes.
Clinique Cream Shaper for Eyes – £15.00 for 1.2 g – I like that the way this non-smudging cream eye pencil applies very smoothly and easily. Like the mascara, I find it works best for a simple day look.
Next up are the samples I received in the Amarya June Beauty Box, which is a pleasure to receive each month!
REN Satin Perfection BB Cream SPF 15 – £7.80 for 15ml (as shown) or £26.00 for 50ml – I really like this product and it’s no wonder it has sold out in record time! It’s a fantastic natural, organic BB cream that produces excellent, long-lasting coverage, with the added benefits of SPF and antioxidant protection. I like that it is non-oily and I don’t end up with a shiny forehead at the end of the day and the light texture doesn’t clog up my pores.
Gielly Green Repair Shampoo - £5.00 for 50ml (as shown) or £16.00 for 200ml – I LOVE the scent of this shampoo. I’ve never needed a specific repair shampoo as I don’t colour, treat, straighten or otherwise damage my hair, so this isn’t what I would set out to purchase for myself, but I would recommend it if that’s the type of shampoo you need. It has a beautiful scent and did leave my hair feeling very well nourished and silky soft.
Oxygen Hand and Body Cream - £14.95 for 200ml – Another beautiful scent! I’ve been using this as a hand cream as the sample size I received is perfect for keeping in my handbag. It absorbs quickly, smells beautifully and keeps my hands moisturised. Great product!
