Maternity Style – Online Shopping
Now well into the third trimester, I am excited (and anxious) to be nearing the home stretch! Since late March when I made my first maternity purchases, I have been spending a good deal of time online, browsing maternity fashion websites, discovering new-to-me brands and shopping for new clothes to accommodate my growing bump.
I haven’t had to buy a completely new wardrobe. In the second trimester, I could still wear many of my pre-pregnancy dresses, especially those made with bamboo or tencel knit which have a good stretch, are extremely comfortable to wear and are easy to dress up – with a tailored black blazer, statement jewellery and heels for dinner – or down – with a jean jacket and flats for a weekend outfit. For running errands or casual days, I also have a few pre-pregnancy tops and wrap cardigans that are loose-fitting enough to wear with my maternity jeans, lounge trousers or bamboo knit leggings.
What I have purchased over the past months are: a pair of under bump maternity jeans, a couple of maternity cocktail dresses, tunics (to wear with leggings), nightdresses and a dressing gown (which are also for my hospital bag), maternity sports bras, maternity and nursing lingerie, Mama Spanx and some comfy tees. Next on my list: breastfeeding tops and jumpers.
Here are the online independent shops that I’ve been browsing and shopping at for maternity fashion;
Isabella Oliver – http://www.isabellaoliver.com
Ruched One Shoulder Maternity Dress (on sale £74.75) ¦ Grecian Maternity Tunic (on sale £30) ¦ Vivien Print Maternity Dress (on sale £83.85) ¦ Kim Slouchy Maternity Top (on sale £41.25) ¦ Ruched Maternity T-Shirt Dress (on sale £64.35)
When I first started looking for maternity clothes, Isabella Oliver kept coming up, from maternity fashion blog posts, to parenting magazine fashion spreads, to personal recommendations (mothers who loved the Isabella Oliver clothes they wore during their pregnancies). The Vivien Print Maternity Dress was one of my first purchases, which I bought for Easter and have continued to wear regularly up until now. It’s lovely to wear to formal events or a dinner out and made with a great quality, flattering and machine washable fabric. I also recently bought the Grecian Maternity Tunic – again I love the fabric, it’s perfect to wear with leggings and it will also work well for nursing.
Isabella Oliver has a great selection of maternity clothing, from workwear to everyday essentials to occasionwear, most of which (especially the tops and dresses) you can still wear post-pregnancy. Check out the website for up to 60% off in their summer sale.
Seraphine – http://www.seraphine.com
I’m often stopping by the Seraphine on Kensington Church Street and have purchased a couple of basics there – maternity jeans and a pair of ShoeTherapy ballerina flats – as well as the the orchid silk chiffon dress shown above from the Luxe Collection. I needed a new cocktail dress for an event and I absolutely love the plum colour and soft, floaty material of this dress.
Seraphine has a wide selection of tops, dresses, jeans and trousers, tights and leggings, knitwear, swimwear, nightwear, lingerie, workwear and outerwear to carry you through pregnancy and nursing. The Seraphine range is a great value, with many items, such as tops and jeans, at the same price as high street brands but of better quality. Now is a particularly good time to stock up on maternity fashion with their up to 50% off sale.
JoJo Maman Bébé – http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/
I’ve shopped at the Jojo Maman Bébé shop in Chelsea a few times over the past months to pick up baby clothes – including adorable body suits, hats and sleepsuits from their Organic Collection – along with maternity underwear and extremely helpful bra extenders which have allowed me to continue to wear several of my pre-pregnancy bras.
In addition to a large selection of baby essentials for the nursery, bathtime, feeding, travelling and more, Jojo Maman Bébé offers an extensive and affordable range of clothing for pregnancy and breastfeeding, from classic tops and knitwear to stylish and comfortable dresses to essential trousers and jeans, plus swimwear, nightwear and outerwear. They have a large selection at great prices – the perfect place to stock up before going on holiday! Emma Jane Padded T-Shirt Nursing Bra (on sale £16) ¦ Action Sports Nursing Bra in Grey (£25) ¦ Hotmilk In the Spotlight Nursing Bra (£25) ¦ Super Sports Nursing Bra in White (£27) ¦ Hot Milk Chic Nursing Bra (£33)
Boobie Milk offers maternity and nursing bras from brands such as Hotmilk, Emma-Jane, Carriwell and Sportjock that fit sizes 30-42 and B-H cups and can be worn during pregnancy, breastfeeding, all day and all night. I found out about Boobie Milk from a fitness website when I was looking for recommendations for a maternity sports bra. I ended up purchasing the Action Sports Nursing Bra, shown above, which zips up in the front and is very comfortable to wear.
The selection of bras are designed to fit with your changing body, for example the Hotmilk Chic nursing bra has 6 hooks in the band to accommodate the increases and decreases in your rib size during pregnancy and after birth.
